The Student Nurse Organization has decided to reach out to the community, on campus and across the state, according to Grant Shea, president.
"We want to create a greater community atmosphere because, for the most part, nursing students don't mingle with the other students," said.
Shea. "We would like to have an event for every month," he added.
For February, to coincide with the state SNO organi-zation's conference, the group ran a drive to collect items for the Atlantic City Rescue Mission.
"The state conference is this weekend, and I will be bringing the donated items down with me," said Shea.
The group had collection boxes placed across campus, including in the College Center, but, according to Shea, that one was taken.
"As people see our name across campus, I hope that will spark their interest," said Shea.Overall, he said, the group collected about four boxes full of items.
"Everything from toiletry items to diapers to clothes (was collected)," said Shea.
The group is planning a Health Fair and is seeking participation from all campus groups. "For example, the Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship could be there and talk about spiritual health," said Shea.
SNO meets monthly on the fourth Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m. in the Nursing Building. There is an SNO bulletin board in the Nursing Building with sign-up and event information posted.
Shea said he wanted to urge all student nurses to get involved, and he added pre-nursing students are encouraged to join.
