Linda Simmons-Kirby, director of student events and fundraisers for SNO, spoke about emotional health and road rage. Simmons-Kirby explained some ways to reduce irritation caused by driving.
"We are telling people to use three things-reflect, reframe, refocus. If you can do these three things, you will help yourself to reduce your stress and lessen your own road rage," she said. Simmons-Kirby had handouts with this information as well as other tips.
Micaela Rehak, secretary for the Organic Chemistry Club, and Maria Tamburro, instructor of science, were taking people's blood pressures and pulses as part of the mental-health table. Keeping blood pressure under control is an important step in maintaining health, according to Tamburro. One of the many ways to do that is through keeping stress under control.
"Exercise, lower sodium and a good, healthy diet are all ways to help keep blood pressure under control," said Tamburro.
The fair was advertised in the Student Life "What's Happening" flyer, but the weather was rainy, and the turnout for the fair was low.
"Unfortunately, this is a commuter campus and when that is combined with the rain, I think those were major factors leading to the low turnout," said Vitale.
"I think student's missed out on a good opportunity to improve their overall health," said Shea.
"A lot of students' major complaint is stress, and almost every presentation was geared toward lowering stress or understanding the effects of stress," he added.
