Men's tennis qualifies for national tourney

The OCC men's tennis team has qualified to participate in the national championship competition.
The Vikings earned this honor with a third-place finish in the National Junior Colligate Athletic Association Region XIX tournament at Mercer County College Apr. 24 and 25.
The national tournament will be held in Plano, Texas, May 10 through 15.
In championship-round play, OCC's Zeke Smith lost to Nick Sheppard of Gloucester County College, 6-1, 6-4.
OCC accumulated 12 points in the tournament. The teams that finished in front of them were Brookdale Community College, which took second place with 16 points, and Gloucester, which finished first with 25 points.
Individual honors have also been handed out. Region XIX has announced the All-Region team. OCC's Nicholas Chttadino and Anthony Funicelli were awarded first-team honors at first doubles. Cittadnio and Smith garnered recognition as second-team athletes, Cittadino at first singles and Smith at sixth singles
The Vikings finished the season with a 6-4 record. They got off to a great start, winning four of their first five matches.
OCC defeated Mercer County College, 7-0. Mar 30. The Vikings lost to the Road Runners of Gloucester, 7-2, Apr. 5.
OCC then won three straight. Another 7-2 victory, this one against Mercer County College, was posted Apr. 7 at Mercer. The Vikings then defeated Morris County College twice, both by scores of 9-0. OCC found tough competition in a contest played at Gloucester Apr. 17. The Vikings lost, 8-1, and then lost two matches to Brookdale Apr. 18, 5-4 and 6-3.
OCC won its final two regular-season contests, defeating Bergen County College in identical scores of 9-0.
